Michael Thornton is a private jeweller in Islington, London, creating bespoke fine jewellery exclusively by commission.
Each piece is entirely unique, designed and handcrafted for discerning clients who value the finer things and delight in the collaborative process of bringing their imagination to life.
With a degree in jewellery design and silversmithing, he went on to work in high jewellery sales at one of London’s pre-eminent maisons. During his 25-year tenure, he managed the brand’s Bond Street flagship and established boutiques across the Middle East and Asia.
In 2020, Michael founded his own namesake brand,
continuing to work to the same benchmark of excellence, with the finest gems, design and craftsmanship, offering a bespoke service shaped entirely around the client.
Today, he works privately, welcoming commissions from clients in the UK and abroad. He personally handles every commission, from the initial conversation to the final jewel. These range from statement necklaces and elegant drop earrings, to colourful cocktail rings and diamond solitaires, with many clients taking as much pleasure in the step-by-step process of creation as in the finished piece itself.
Michael personally sources every gem during his travels across Europe and Asia, selecting only exceptional-cut stones in diamonds, rubies and Paraíba tourmalines, among others. Collaborating with a talented designer, he creates one-off commissions fashioned from an array of materials, including 18ct gold, titanium, and lacquer. Each piece strikes a balance between innovation, elegance, and precision. With the creation entrusted to goldsmiths from the foremost ateliers of London and Europe, these works marry traditional craftsmanship with the latest techniques.
Michael welcomes clients by appointment at his studio mews in Islington or, where preferred, in the comfort of their own home.
